DRIVING IN SMOKE

The unfortunate part of the Summer season includes extreme heat and dry conditions. With this combination as well as external factors, wildfires are created -- causing not only damage, but the potential for a large, traveling plume of smoke. When you're driving in smoke, use your air re-circulator to keep the air inside your vehicle cool and fresh. Avoid opening your windows as much as possible. Recirculating the air inside of your cabin prevents your system using outside air to enter your vehicle. It's important to protect your lungs from the harmful smoke particles. Once the smoke has disappeared, be sure to change your cabin air filter at the end of the season as it can get dirty very quickly with smoke around. If the air is too smoky, it can cause limited visibility similar to fog. In this case, make sure you're cautious and slow down! Using your fog lights is also a good choice in these conditions. If the air is unhealthy around you, stay inside as much as possible and use these tips to prevent any unnecessary contact with the smoky air. HOW DOES THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM WORK?

The tire pressure monitor system is a convenient system that constantly monitors your tire's pressure in order to ensure your tires have enough air and are ready to hit the road. This feature presents an extra safety addition, as tires are the only contact your vehicle has with the road. On many newer vehicle models, the TPMS can be integrated with the driver information display. Each tire is equipped with a special sensor that lets your vehicle know that a tire is low, and will indicate that with a warning light and information on the equipped driver information display. If the vehicle is equipped, the TPMS can sense the amount of pressure within each tire and display each psi on the display. This helps save time trying to find which tire needs air the most. TPMS sensors also need to be replaced or serviced as they can lose battery over time. The average lifespan of a tire pressure sensor is about 7-8 years, but can last much longer than that. New models have an easy fill feature added to the tire pressure system. This easy fill feature saves you even more time by providing an alert when your tire is at the ideal psi as you are filling up your tires. Is it time to service your Tire Pressure Monitor System? TIME TO PULLOVER: TOP 3 REASONS FOR A VEHICLE BREAKDOWN

There will never be a good time for a breakdown! The best way to avoid any breakdowns is preventative maintenance. Here is a list of the top 3 reasons why cars break down and how to prevent them: Flat Tires: Flat tires can happen when you least expect it! They can be caused from puncture by a sharp object, tire leak, too much wear, heat and more. Make sure you are up-to-speed on fixing a flat or have a spare ready to go. Prevent - Check your tire pressure on a regular basis! It's a good idea to get a tire rotation a few times a year, or even every time you get an oil change service. Always inspect your tires and do not drive with low tire pressure for too long. Faulty/Dead Battery: A faulty or dead battery can leave you stranded, looking for a jumpstart. Your battery can be affected by extreme temperatures, but they also need replacement over time. Prevent - Do not leave lights on or devices charging inside of your vehicle. Getting your battery tested every season can prevent any future issues as well! Overheating: If your vehicle's temperature gauge begins to rise past normal levels, it's time to pullover and get your vehicle to the shop! Prevent - Ensure your coolant levels are full and that it is clean! Our mechanics can double check hoses and connections in your coolant system for any visible leaks. A coolant flush may also be a good idea. Our expert technicians here at Speck Chevrolet Buick of Prosser can take care of any issues you may be experiencing with your vehicle, and provide a thorough inspection to see if your vehicle is ready to hit the road. CHEVROLET BOWTIE EMBLEM HISTORY

Chevrolet's Bowtie has always been a symbol of the hard work and dedication behind designing a great line of automobiles. Throughout the years, the same basic shape is seen in most of the long-standing history of Chevrolet vehicles. William C. Durant, Chevrolet co-founder, was the first one to introduce this signature bowtie in 1913. There are many stories as to where he came up with the design. These include the bowtie being an infinity design on a hotel wallpaper in France, a restructured Swiss flag, an idea hatched from a similar advertisement design, and more. With the introduction of many amazing models throughout the years, the logos have adapted and have been refined further into the gold bowtie we know infamously today. 1913: The bowtie was debuted on the Chevrolet H-2 Royal Mail model for 1914 and the H-4 Baby Grand model. 1936: The bowtie was further refined to become a well-known badge on all 1936 Chevrolet Truck models. 1947: This logo appeared on many Chevy models including the Fleetline, Fleetmaster, and Stylemaster models! These models hit assembly lines after 4 years of war in which no civilian cars were produced -- so demand was very high. Learn more about these models here. 1955: The bowtie was given a classy backdrop to be presented on the hoods of the Bel Air, 210, 150, and Nomad models. These models were revolutionary during this time, and remain extremely popular with collectors. The mid-size Chevrolet 210 & 150 were both named after their production model numbers (2100 & 1500) - which was becoming a trend in the car industry back in the 50's. 1969: This interesting purple bowtie showed up on the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro models. 1974: The silver bowtie made its debut on the 1974 Chevrolet Impala. This year of Impala was one of refinement, with extra insulation, disc brake wear sensors, corrosion-resistant coating, and more. 1982: Introduced on the 1982 Blazer, this logo version begins to show the resemblance to today's infamous gold bowtie. The hearty Blazer was introduced in 1969, and eventually was replaced by the Tahoe model in 1995. Chevrolet has since reintroduced and Redesigned the Blazer in 2018 as a 2019 model. 1995: With a warmer gold tinge, this Chevy emblem was regularly used on all newer trucks (1995-2000) at this time. During this period of time, the Silverado went from being just a trim level, to a full model in 1999. 2004: This golden symbol becomes infamous throughout the world. This refined symbol began with the 2004 Malibu model, and became standard on every Chevy model since then. The Malibu has a history of being a performance vehicle, and one point had the SS (Super Sport) version of the model. 2013: Marketed in more than 140 countries, the bowtie has a modern feel that you will see on every newer model today. The question is... will we see another change to the logo in the future? Get in the driver's seat of a Chevrolet, sporting this bowtie emblem everywhere you go! SUMMER MAINTENANCE TIPS

Engine: As this weather heats up, so will your engine! Cooling systems are an extremely important part of your car's system, and It may be a great time to get your coolant flushed. Always ensure the coolant is filled to the proper level, and if necessary, you can put a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water in the overflow reservoir. As you check your engine cooling system, be sure to take a look at the condition of the belts, hoses, and anything rubber. Battery: Your vehicle battery is also an important part of your regular maintenance, and should be checked as a part of your seasonal maintenance. The summer heat can easily create wear and tear on your battery, so it's very important to make sure your battery is mounted safely. Inspect for corrosion and build-up on the terminals, wearing protective gloves. Our team is happy to do this for you, as well as give your battery a test to see how it's performing. Tires: Just like the winter, the extreme weather can affect your tire pressure. The heat of the road and a lack of tire pressure can create tire conditions worthy of a possible blow out. Keep in mind that extreme heat can expand the air inside of the tire, causing it to increase tire pressure. Follow the proper inflation guide listed in your owner's manual or door jamb. Regular rotations are also an excellent idea. Air Conditioning: This one you can feel first hand. This one is not only important for you, but for your potential passengers. Maintain a good interior temperature by getting your air system checked! If it's not cooling like it used to, you may need more refrigerant, or a possible leak somewhere in the system. Many vehicles now have a cabin air filter that keeps your inside air clean. It is important that this filter is regularly inspected and replaced as needed. Fluids: Transmission Fluid, Brake Fluid, Power Steering Fluid, Coolant, Engine Oil; all of these fluids lubricate and protect your system. Your owner's manual should be able to give you a good idea of inspection intervals. Oil changes have typically been suggested to be performed around roughly every 3,000 miles, but nowadays can differ depending on your vehicle. Contact our Certified Service experts at Speck Chevrolet Buick of Prosser if you need some help to figure out how often you should be checking and replacing your oil & filter. Time for an oil change? WHAT DOES CHEVROLET'S MULTI-FLEX TAILGATE DO?

The new Multi-Flex tailgate found on the new Chevrolet Silverado models gives you a versatile tailgate that can transform from a step, to a bed extender, to a functional workspace and more with just the push of a few buttons on the tailgate, on the key fob, and even from inside the cabin. Chevy's Multi-Flex tailgate offers six different configuration options: Primary Tailgate Opening: This first one is the classic tailgate option, accessed with a press of the bottom button of the tailgate. Workbench: Flip the top half of the tail down with the press of the very top button on the tailgate. This gives you an easy-access, on-the-go workstation. Added Reach: Pressing both buttons on the tailgate at the same time will not online fold the tailgate down, but fold the middle part of the tailgate down further, providing extra reach when unloading cargo. Durable Step: The task of moving cargo is less straining with this configuration. With both tailgate and middle section folded down, the small inside panel is then opened and folded out -- making a durable step. Bed Extender/Load Stop: The Bed Extender/Load Stop on the Multi-Flex tailgate is accessed simply by folding the tailgate down and opening the small panel used for the step. Load Stop (Closed tailgate): When the tailgate is fully closed, open the top portion and fully extend the step panel to get a convenient load stop on the middle.
